Beihai, Tuesday 16th October – The 6-day Tour of Guangxi started from Beihai with a relatively short stage at 107.4km. 3 intermediate sprints and 2 Cat.3 climb are set in 2 laps circuit race. Riders from Team Bahrain Merida stayed in the peloton, while the breakaway was controlled by Quickstep Floors, LottoNL-Jumbo and Groupama-FDJ.

Yukiya Arashiro made a brief comment for today: “For me it’s almost 4 month no racing. I tried to sprint but I have no legs for the final. Feng helped me get near the train of FDJ, but last kilometer I cannot move to go to the front. Maybe better tomorrow.”

Mei-Yin Wang tried hard to join the breakaway group with high motivation: “I tried to get my body to the race form today. It would be great if I succeeded, if not, I still have chance in the following stage, even for the stage win. My condition is much better than last year thanks to the steady race and training with the team’s program.”

Our sports director Rik Verbrugghe concluded: “It was a really fast stage today, only 107.4km. Wang tried to go the first breakaway, he was in the break but the team caught him back really soon. In the end it was a sprint. We don’t really have a sprinter in the team, so we gonna see what we can do in GC.”
