Volta Ciclista a Catalunya

March 25th – 31st

FRIDAY, 29 MAR 2019

Puigcerdà- Sant Cugat Del Vallès, 188.1km. Undulating course, with flat finish.

Team Bahrain Merida sprinter Phil Bauhaus took 6th place in the sprint for runner-up position, finishing 13” behind the solo winner Maximilian Schachmann, who was in the 4-man group of the day’s breakaway.
“Unfortunately Schachmann was too strong and he could manage to stay away” Bauhaus comments and explains how the stage unfolded “Today’s start was quite hard, but then we were a strong group and the breakaway seemed to be under control. I really want to underline that the my team was super strong and the boys gave everything to make it possible for me to go for the win. In the end, at the last corner, I was a bit surprised from the attack of Mccarthy. The legs were still really good, but I did a mistake, getting a little bit too nervous and following him too early. I was positioned very well and I was on the wheel of Matthews. I was really confident on my legs, but unfortunately McCarthy slowed and I had to start my sprint too early, so I had no legs and the other guys could pass me easily. Good thing is that today’s stage made me confident and that we have a good team, good team spirit. Let’s sse what is possible tomorrow. I hope to give the team the result we deserve”.
