Tre Valli Varesine

October 8th

Saronno > Varese, 197km.

Unfortunately, Team Bahrain Merida leaders Vincenzo Nibali and Dylan Teuns couldn’t contest the win on the 99th edition of ‘Tre Valli Varesine” due to a mistake in the course. In fact, with 16km to go their group followed a TV motorbike that took a wrong way and at that point it was impossible to manage to retrieve. It happened when Sanchez was leading the race and Nibali and Teuns were in the first chasing group. When they finally could go back in the right course it was too late and they had a gap of about 1’30” to Sanchez and one minute to the new first chasing group, including the winner Roglic and our Damiano Caruso, who took the responsibility of leadership for our team, taking 9th place in Varese.
“The outcome of the race was not the expected one for us” Team Bahrain Merida Sports Director Alberto Volpi explains “We are disappointed for that mistake in the course, but we can say that our riders Nibali, Teuns and Caruso showed to have good legs ahead of ‘Il Lombardia’. All in all, our boys did a good race. We entered in the early breakaway with Valerio Agnoli, who was also awarded for the intermediate sprint. It was a hard race and both Ivan Cortina and Sonny Colbrelli dropped. It was definitely not one for the sprinters”.
