Murten, 17th June 2019 – “There was a bit of fight – says Ivan Garcia Cortina, today 4th after a bunch sprint – to take the best position in the last short climb and first I followed my teammate Matej Mohoric and after John Degenkolb. I entered into last corner in fifth position and then finish a place forward”.

“I come from a training camp in the mountains – still the Spaniard rider – and therefore I lack a bit of race pace, but day after day my feelings are improving. Today I wanted to try the sprint to see how I am and I can say that I’m happy with my result. Of course, I’m sure I can do better in the next stages”.

“It was a stage with a not particularly complicated route – explains SD Paolo Artuso – and therefore it was easy to foresee a bunch sprint. In the first part, the team worked to protect our leaders Rohan Dennis and Domenico Pozzovivo and then in the final Ivan was able to play his cards in the sprint. He was very good because he arrived with great champions like Peter Sagan and Elia Viviani “.

With his win the former World Champion moves into the GC lead two time bonuses with Dennis in 3rd place with an 11” gap from the race leader.

The 4th stage from Murten to Arlesheim (163km) is characterized by a flat first part and a hilly second half with 3.4 kilometers ascent to 9.4% crested with less than 15 kilometers to go.
