Binche > Épernay, 215km. Hilly finale for punchers.

Sonny Colbrelli grabs another Top Ten at the finish line in Épernay. The Italian sprinter finished 7th at the end of a race won by French Julian Alaphilippe who is also the new race leader.
“In the last 500m I found myself a bit behind in the bunch – comments Sonny – I tried to go up again but I found a rider who closed me the road and so I lost my pace. Finally, I found space and launched myself recovering several positions but not enough to get into the Top Five. I knew that the win was already gone but I was thinking to get more points for the Green jersey. My goal, however, remains to win a stage and I’ll try again”.
“It was a quiet stage in the first part – explains SD Gorazd Stangelj – very fast thanks to the wind in favor. The finale was quite nervous and tough and I’m sorry for Sonny because he was feeling very well; he was closed at the beginning of the last côte but deserved a better placement”.
