The Deutschland Tour runs through southwestern Germany from August 23-26 and visits five German states in its first new appearance. The terrain between the start in Koblenz and the finale in Stuttgart is very diverse and inspired the course designers to create a race which will leave the question of the final overall winner open until the final day. Sprinters and aggressive Classics riders will all have their chances on the four stages, which cover more than 737 kilometres. 132 pro riders from 22 teams will be presented to the crowd at the big stage at the foot of the Kaiser Wilhelm mountain on Wednesday 22ndafternoon.

Bahrain Merida Sports Director Tristan Hofmann presented Tour of Germany and the team: “After more than 10 years, Tour of Germany came back to the UCI calendar. This year, strong competitors will attend it as, for example, the winner of this year’s Tour de France. Line up of Team Bahrain Merida is strong. GC leader will be a newly winner of the BinckBank Tour Slovenian rider Matej Mohorič. His helpers are Antonio Nibali, stagier Maxim Pirard, Meiyin Wang and very experienced Heinrich Haussler who will also help to his teammates with the advices and racing strategy. For the flat stages team has a sprinter Niccoló Bonifazio who will try to win them with the help of Heinrich Haussler. We gave a chance to a stagier Maxim Pirard who will compete in WorldTour race and have a chance to show his abilities for the first time. The race with the 4 stages has a lot of climbs but none too extreme. We expect good race and we are looking forward for a good general classification.”

GC leader Matej Mohorič commented his next race: “I am coming to Tour of Germany after the most successful week in my career at BinckBank Tour. I had great legs there, had to go deep in the last two days to keep the leader’s jersey but, hopefully, I will recover in time for Tour of Germany. We will have a great team there. I will focus on the GC and, hopefully, we will have another great week of success with Team Bahrain Merida.”
