Reus, 25th March – Tsgabu Grmay made the best out of today’s stage Tortosa – Reus (189,7 km) and finished 14th, which brought him 16th place in general classification. It was a nice sunny day for a stage, completely different from previous ones on Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.

After heavy rain during the night, the Catalonian city Tortosa woke up on a sunny Saturday morning. A big crowd gathered on the streets at the start area, to welcome all teams and celebrate cycling.

After 28 km started the climb on Alt De Bot (Cat. 3) and after that 3 big groups were formed, that remained all the way to Alt De Falset (Cat 3) and even further. BAHRAIN MERIDA rider, Tsgabu Grmay was in the front group, that raised the gap from 7 minutes to more than 26 minutes of distance from the 2nd group. All Quick-Step, Lotto-Jumbo and Orica-Scott riders were in the front group fighting and keeping eyes on their GC candidates, but also strategically trying to make the gap bigger, according to Chris Froom of Team SKY. From Coll De Porerra (Cat. 3) to Alt De Musara (Cat. 1) the strategies became more visible. A fast descent started in the last 34,5 kilometres and gap between the two front groups was impossible to be levelled up. It was a completely different Stage of Volta Ciclista A Catalunya.

Today was definitely Tsgabu Grmay’s day. He showed again his qualities at challenging climbs, even covered with snow, and fast, wet and dangerous descents. Tsgabu Grmay finished today’s stage in 14th place and climbed in his style to 16th place in GC.

Harald Morscher, sports director commented after the race: »Tsgabu Grmay did a really good job today. He was in a good shape and he passed over the first climb within the first group. The other teams were pushing very hard to drop Froom, which they did in the end. Tsgabu also stayed in the top ten on the last climb, where there was snow. It was a really good performance after Paris –Nice and it also gives him a good confidence for the upcoming races in Pais Vasco. We are very happy for him today.«

Satisfied Tsgabu Grmay commented after the race: »It was really quite hard. The race was incredibly fast. At the end I tried to achieve a good result for the team, I did my best but I am not a sprinter. Last climb was very slippery, guys took risks and I followed them and also took risk, despite the rain and speed. I am really happy with my performance and I am 100% satisfied.«
