“In the final we tried to gain some seconds – said Kanstantsin Siutsou – and I attacked together with Vincenzo and Ramunas”.
“The peloton has put a little to react – added the Belarusian rider – and it has taken us, but it was right to try to the last”.
The sixth stage was marked by a long breakaway of ten riders including our Manuele Boaro. “We just started after the start – said the Italian athlete – and we made more than 120 km in the wind”.
More than 20 km to go, three riders attacked again and managed to earn just enough to get to the final sprint. The victory went to Argentinian Maximiliano Richeze with our Navardauskas in eight place after the bunch sprint.
In the overall, the Dutchman Bauke Mollema maintained his leadership with Navardauskas and Nibali seventh and eighth respectively. Bahrain Merida team is still leading the team classification.
To report that due to the extreme heat – the temperature reached 43 degrees Celsius – the organisers took the decision to cut of 18 km from what was to be the longest stage. “It’s a correct decision – spiega sport director Paolo Slongo – it’s right to think about the athletes health”.
At the end of the Vuelta just missing one stage. The street circuit of San Juan, in fact, will be the final round of this year 2017. Target for sprinters.
