ST5: Vuelta a San Juan :: Chimbas – Alto Colorado (162 km)
“We are pleased with the 1st place in the team classification – commented sport director Paolo Slongo – we came to the Vuelta a San Juan also to check our condition and this result confirms that we are going in the right direction.”
The “Queen Stage” was won by the Portuguese Rui Costa, while the Dutchman Bauke Mollema is the new race leader. Vincenzo Nibali was tenth with a 57” gap from the stage winner.
“I don’t have yet the some pace of the best riders – said the Italian champion now 8th in the GC – but overall I am satisfied with my race. I lifted off when there were only 2 km to go. At this point of my season, that’s okay. “
Ramunas Navardaskas lost the leader’s jersey but has no regrets: “I tried to defend the first place and up to 5 km have been in the first group without problems. Then the Colombians have accelerated and I lost ground. “
Kanstantsin Siutsou was one of the protagonists in the central part of the stage finding twice the breakaway contributing in this way to make a great first group selection.
Tomorrow sixth and penultimate stage: 185 km without any particular difficulties and a final adapted for the sprinters.
