Sonny sprints to second place in Delémont
Delémont, 25th April 2018 – A second place for Sonny Colbrelli at the end of a very selective stage, that saw the arrival of a first group of about fifty riders.
A result with a bitter taste for the Italian rider: “A second place in a World Tour race is always welcome but this time there is a bit of disappointment. I had a good leg and I missed very little to win “.
“As the race developed – he added – it could have ended better. A the sprint, I started from afar but the stage winner the Spaniard Omar Fraile anticipated me. We ran well and deserved more. Already tomorrow I will have another opportunity and I hope to do better “.
Good performance also by the whole team: “My goal – said for example Ramunas Navardauskas – was to stay with the boys until the last climb, that was too hard for me. Afterwards I broke off and arrived quietly at the finish line”.
Analyzes the stage, Sport Director Harald Morscher: “The Team has proven to be strong and I regret not having finalized all the work with a victory. Sonny has proven to have the usual grit and tomorrow we will try again “.
In the overall, Gorka Izagirre earned four positions and he is now 6th with a gap from the new race leader the Slovenian Primoz Roglic. Gorka’s bother Ion is 12th with 14” from the leadership.
The second stage will take the peloton from Delémont to Yverdon-les-Bains after 173km. The route is undulating with only one major climb, the Col des Etroits (5km at 6%), but with 60km to go and so far away the finish line. It will be a race for attackers or a sprint finish?
