Sonny and Vincenzo ready for amazing Strade Bianche

  |   Press

From Siena to Siena for what is called “Europe’s most southern northern classic”. This year’s edition of the Strade Bianche is 184 km with more than 60 km of the total distance covered on the Tuscany’s gravel roads.

It’s a unique competition with a twisty and undulating course, with a lot of long climbs but with punchy hills, most significantly on the unpaved parts. The final kilometers going to the finish line in Piazza del Campo, in the medieval town center, are very demanding with a steep climb (16%) and sweeping curves.

Sonny Colbrelli will be one of our team leader: “I’m debuting in Italy after a weekend in Belgium that gave me some good results. With the Strade Bianche I have a good feeling also because it reminds me a little of the Northern classics. The tactic is simple: stay close to the big favorites and play my chances in the final going up to Siena “.

Vincenzo Nibali will be the other TBM’s captain: “I start my racing season in Europe in Siena. After the Tour of Oman, I trained at home going often uphill and I think I’m ready for the dirt roads. It’s a race that I’ve always liked and I just hope to be less unlucky than last year when I fell and after I had a flat tire”.

Sports director Alberto Volpi: “Our leaders will be Sonny and Vincenzo with Giovanni Visconti in the third punch role. The 63 km gravel roads will be very selective as usual, but also the weather conditions will be decisive. In case of cold and bad weather, in fact, the race will be exhausting and the strongest and most resistant riders will emerge”.

TBM’s line-up for Strade Bianche: Grega Bole, Sonny Colbrelli, Kristijan Koren, Matej Mohoric, Vincenzo Nibali, Mark Padun, Giovanni Visconti
