Pozzovivo grabs Green Jersey in Lienz

Lienz (Austria), April 19thStage 4 of the Tour of the Alps from Chiusa/Klausen to Lienz (km 134,3km) sees another great performance of BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team and his captain Domenico Pozzovivo, who attacks on the second categorized climb of the day – the Bannberg, a 7 km at a 6,5% average gradient – taking 6 points for the Best Climber classification that he is now leading.

“I tried every possible move today” says Domenico who attacked not only on the climb, but on the final downhill heading to Lienz too “I feel strong, but my rivals are powerful too. I took this Green Jersey that is a good reward, but the aim is still the overall. Tomorrow I will try again for sure. Let’s see if there are favorable tactical situations. It won’t be easy, but seen what happened today I think I can invent something interesting tomorrow too” TBM captain was part of a selected group of 15 riders that formed on the Bannberg climb. With 2 km to go the decisive attack of Sanchez, who overtops for few seconds Bennet, while his teammates Bouwman leads the group home 11” behind, with Pozzovivo taking a good 6th place. Pinot – 4th today – is still the leader of the general classification, with our rider second (+15″).

“We’re very satisfied of the job done by our boys so far here at the Tour of the Alps” says Sports Directors Harald Morscher “As planned we were in today’s breakaway, before with Agnoli and then with Padun, that showed his talent once again. In the final Pozzovivo had strong legs on the climbs, but he surprised his rivals in the descent as well. We’re still there to fight for the overall and we can be happy that all our riders are in good conditions ahead of tomorrow final stage”.

The circuit of the 2018 UCI Road World Championships will be the final showdown of this Tour of the Alps’ edition “I’m Austrian, so It would be nice if we will take a win on my home roads”
