Ribeira Sacra, September 5th 2018 – The longest stage of this Vuelta gives Franco Pellizotti the third place. “My breakaway’s teammates – said the Italian rider – were all high-quality riders and it was not easy also to surprise the three BMC athletes.”

“When De Marchi and Restrepo attacked – he continued – I lost the moment. I saw the team cars in the front and so I tried to recover but it was too late. I feel very good and I’m happy to stop at the end of the season when I can still give something to the sport I’ve always loved “.

Ion Izagirre earned a place in the standings and is now fourth with a 17 “gap from the race leader Simon Yates.” It was a very tough stage – told the Basque rider – and in the final Movistar made a very strong pace. The team helped me a lot and I thank them. In the last few kilometers my brother Gorka gave me a great help first uphill and then in the very tricky descent “.

Good race of Vincenzo Nibali who tried two times to go on the break: “Day after day the sensations  are improving – he said smiling – and today I wanted to go on the run and try to win the stage. The peloton did not let me go, it means that I will try again! “.

Tomorrow the Vuelta will go through Galicia. The route of stage number 12 from Mondonedo to Faro de Estaca de Bares (181km) is mostly flat with some undulations especially in the final.
