Muscat, February 14h, 2018 – After the second stage, with the first short ascents, the General Classification begins to take shape. On the Al Bustan finish line the Australian Nathan Haas took the victory ahead a small group of about fifteen riders.

Good performance by Gorka Izagirre and Vincenzo Nibali arrived respectively 7th and 13th. In the GC, Haas is the new race leader with the captain Nibali in 5th position and Izaguirre 12th both with a 10” gap from the Australian rider.

“It was a quiet stage – says Gorka – and it came on as expected only in the finale. We have seen the riders who aim to win this Tour of Oman and among them me and Vincenzo. To see the winner, however, we have to wait for the stage which arrives on the Green Mountain “.

“I’m happy with my race – says Vincenzo Nibali – we finally made a bit of a climb and I could see how I am and I can say that the sensations are good. We took the last fast ascent and the peloton immediately broke and in the end we arrived in a few “.

Sports director Gorazd Štangelj comments the stage: “At one point we collaborated to catch back the breakaway and then Gorka and Vincenzo dueled with the best. I am satisfied with the result and the fact that both are in front of the GC “.

Tomorrow the third stage of 180 km with a wavy route and a nervous final with a steep part of one kilometer to 9.6% with 8 km to go.
