Binck Bank Tour 2018.

Lanaken, August 17th– Stage 5 – Sint Peters Leeuw – Ardooie – 204.4 km

Stage 5 was the stage where Matej Mohorič collected the points to keep the leaders jersey. The “Binck Golden Kilometer” looks like a good and suitable thing for our leader with fast and prompt  mathematical skills. Today’s TBM bus meeting and clear strategy communicated to the riders from TBM sport directors Tristan Hoffman and Rik Verbrugghe was to work hard and stick together, serve, keep safe and do all needed to keep Matej Mohorič dressed in the green leaders’ jersey in the eve of last two decisive stages.

At today’s stage the youn Danish Cort Nielsen (Astana Pro Team) got into an early breakaway, and by this formula from the prior days that breakaway quartet kept the gap to the peloton at the final circuits of Lanaken.

Young Danish rider uprised his speed and tempo an succseeded to take the stage victory.

Julius van den Berg, the stagiare of EF Education First-Drapac took the runner up place and Alexis Gougeard (AG2R-La Mondiale) got third.

Matej Mohorič, TBM finished 10th and kept the green jersey for the penultimate Stage 6 and in the eve of decisive weekend in the Ardennes and around Geraardsbergen.

All TBM rider did their very best to keep them under control the peloton and to defend Mohorič’s overall lead.

Matej Mohorič stays as an overall leader with same advantage like yesterday of three seconds ahead of Sean De Bie (Veranda’s Willems Crelan) and Stefan Kung (BMC Racing) remains third at 22 seconds behind Matej Mohoričin overall.

Matej Mohorič gave us his thoughts: “Today was a really hard day to keep the leader’s jersey. We controlled the race the whole day and all my team-mates did a really great job, taking turnes at the front and having eyes on the breakaway group. We are very happy to wear the jersey today aswell for the upcoming stages. It will be my first experience at the cobble stones tomorrow so I’m looking forward to it and I will do my best to keep my goal. I’m self confident and I respect all the competitors and the cobbles”.
