Matej Mohorič a runner up at Stage 6 at Tour of Austria
Wenigzell, July 12th– Knittelfeld – Wenigzell / Stage 6 – 176.9 km
Stage 6 – Tour of Austria 2018. started today in Knittelfeld and went all the way to the home region of TBM Hermann Pernsteiner where the crowd was really excited to host all the cycling teams and TBM with their Austrian star.
All went well for TBM from the start when Matej Mohorič went into an early breakaway with Aleksej Lutsenko (Astana Pro Team) and few more riders. After 100 km Mohorič was on the wheel of Lutsenko all the way to the final kilometers to Wenigzell, but Lutsenko dominated and made a tempo suitable for himself and his victory in Wenigzell.
Bahrain Merida Pro Cycling Team had a good performance today and most likely were looking towards to the penultimate and the final stage of Tour of Austria to go for the GC red jersey.
Matej Mohorič shortly expressed his satisfaction and thoughts after todays stage;
“I am satisfied because I gave my best today. I’m sorry that I didn’t’ win today, but Lutsenko was stronger throughout the day. I just tried to stay with him on the climbs and hoped to beat him at the sprint. It is still OK. I gave by best and that is the most important for me.”
Giovanni Visconti is still the leader by points and Hermann Pernsteiner is keeping his orange jersey as the best Austrian and is still at the 2nd place in GC with 18 seconds behind the leader, same like after Stage 5.
