Trieste (Italy), July 28th – Mission accomplished at the Adriatica Ionica Race. Mark Padun seals overall victory on the final stage. It was a flat one, from Cormons to Trieste (133.5km), but with some pitfalls on the course. For this reason, teamwork was fundamental today, to protect Team Bahrain Merida leader and secure the final win.

“I’m so thankful to my teammates. Everyone was so helpful” the Ukrainian rider comments “There was a very dangerous final descent to Trieste and a final fast lap around the town that could have been tricky. But they worked from the start to the finish to help and protect me and happily I’m here to celebrate with them this big success. The first stage race victory of my career”.

In addition to the overall jersey, the 23-year-old rider takes also the white jersey as the best young.

“We’re very proud of Mark and of all our boys” Team Bahrain Merida Sports Director Paolo Artuso explains “Today we controlled the stage all day, with the only aim to protect Padun. We could also try to win the final stage, but unfortunately our sprinter Phil Bauhaus crashed with one km to go. Anyway, we can be super happy because we hit all our targets on this race: we aimed to take at least a stage with Phil, a stage with Mark and make the podium. We did even better taking the overall win”.
