Cormòns-Monte Quarin (Italy), July 27th– It could be a tricky stage at the Adriatica Ionica Race, but Team Bahrain Merida leader Mark Padun succeeded in keeping the overall leadership.

From Padola to Cormons (204,5km of undulating route ending with an uphill finish) the Ukrainian rider was well protected by teammates on a course that didn’t suit him. “True, but when you feel good, you can do very well also on the races that don’t suit you” Padun explains “Team works excellently once again and I’m very happy also to reward them with this jersey. We will do our best to defend it tomorrow”. Padun was 6th today, finishing in the chasers group, 2’13” behind the winner Remco Evenepoel. “Everybody knows that he is strong. That is not a surprise, but happily we didn’t have the bad surprise that he earned enough time to take the overall jersey”.

Tomorrow’s final stage – from Cormons to Trieste (133.5km), should be a new opportunity for sprinters, but team’s main mission will be to defend the 6 seconds advantage of Mark Padun, to achieved one of the aim of this race: the overall win.
