Adelaide, Wednesday 17th January – In stage 2, the peloton traveled from Unley to the Adelaide Hills, they made 3 laps of the leafy suburb of Stirling before the race finish on Mount Barker Road. All our 3 leaders finished in the first group, with Gorka Izagirre and Domenico Pozzovivo placed 7th & 8th.

“It was a hard stage, the weather was also very hot. We worked hard staying in the front, didn’t win but that was a good job,” says Gorka Izagirre, one of our 3 leaders.

“It was a fast finish, I already knew because I did it 3 times, and always you don’t know it’s a stage for sprinters or not. For me, as a non sprinter, it’s a good result to finish in Top 10. It was a great work of our team today, so I think on Friday and Saturday we are optimistic,” says Domenico Pozzovivo.

Stage 2 is important for Ion Izagirre to test his legs as well: “The team worked all the stage, trying to get the good position, and trying to drop some fast guy, but in the end, it was Caleb Ewan who won the stage. We all 3 leaders finished in the first group, so we are happy.”

From our sport director Tristan Hoffman: “In the end it was not super selective, but we secured the 3 leaders. It was a lot of work, but if you don’t try, you don’t win.”
