Tour de France 2017.

PÉRIGUEX – BERGERAC – 178 km / Stage 10

Troyes, France, July 11th

After the first rest day at Tour de France that BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team had in a beautiful Le Vieux Logis in Tremolat and warm hospitality from the hotel management and staff, it was time for another, 10th stage of Tour de France 2017.

A partially cloudy morning, dry roads and ideal temperature of 25°C in Périguex were the facts that this stage could be a great one with after the day for res and recovery.

As today’s stage was characterized as another battle for sprinters the same scenario was to be expected like on past sprint stages at Tour de France. TBM had the same strategy as for the other sprint stages and get Sonny Colbrelli to the point for attack.

Yoann Ofredo (Wanty) and Elie Gesbert (Fortuneo-Oscaro) went in a breakaway with a maximum difference of 5:20 minutes and from that they kept the gap up to only 5 kilometers before the finish when the sprinters took over. Sonny Colbrelli took 8th position (8 pts) at intermediate sprint (121 km).

Marcel Kittel (QuickStep Floors) proved again that he is the best sprinter at this Tour de France. He had shown again how he explodes in the last hundret meters. Impressive fireworks from Kittel. John Degenkolb was the runner up (Trek Segafredo) and Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) took 3rd position today. Sonny Colbrelli (TEAM BAHRAIN MERIDA)  finished as 9th.

Sonny Colbrelli said shortly after today’s stage: You had to close your eyes and push hard to the finish line. Unfortunately I was too far from the front position and my teammates lost contact with me. I tried to sprint, but it didn’t go as planned. Kittel he’s definitely stronger.
