ST15 Alcalá la Real > Sierra Nevada 129.4 Km

In one of the most difficult stage of La Vuelta, Vincenzo Nibali attacks again, but in the final he loses 6 seconds on Froome. At Alto Hoya de La Mora (2510 metres) he takes 7th place, 53” down on the solo winner Miguel Lopez. In the General Classification BAHRAIN MERIDA captain is now 1’01” down on the leader.

“In a climb like that it was difficult to try to attack, because the pace was high and it was not a steep slope” commented the Shark, who with 13 km remaining accelerated and opened a gap over the red jersey group “When I tried, my hope was that someone moved on behind me, but when I realized that no one could join me, I thought that the ascent was still very long to climb it on alone and above all that Froome was still supported by three of his men, so I relented and they caught me”.

Then only Zakarin tried to catch the leader of the race, Migel Lopez, with about 1 km to go, but the Colombian had a good advantage to celebrate a solo win at Sierra Nevada.

Froome could stay always on the wheels, because he had three teammates with him that controlled the race until the end. They did a great team work, bringing him to the final 500 meters, where he had just to sprint” added Nibali, who came to the line 6 seconds down on the red jersey.

As I already said, Froome is favoured in Tuesday Time Trial and it is difficult to imagine what can happen next week” remarked Vincenzo, before leaving for the airport. In fact riders are attended by a charter flight for the transfer to Navarra, where they will spent the second rest day of La Vuelta.
