Ruta del Sol – Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia 2019.

Feb, 21th 2019 – Stage 2

Sevilla – Torredonjimeno  — 216,5 km

Ivan Garcia Cortina (Bahrain-Merida) launched the sprint very early with a big support of Matej Mohorič and looked ready to take the victory, but some sprinters grabbed his tail in the final 100 metres of the slight uphill finish in Torredonjimeno.

Mateo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) took the 9th seasons’ victory for his team,  ahead of Danny van Poppel (Jumbo-Visma) and Ivan Garcia Cortina TBM  took the third place of the podium of the second stage of the Ruta Ciclista del Sol 2019.

Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) finished in the same time of the winner and kept the race leader’s yellow / black jersey before tomorrows’ 16.2km individual time trial at La Guardia de Jaen.

A great “podium day” for TBM !

Good spirit is around riders and staff of TBM after podiums and 2nd places of Domenico Pozzovivo and Sonny Colbrelli in Oman and podium and 3rd place of Ivan Garcia Cortina in Andalusia. Sonny’s victory in Oman on Tuesday put the whole TBM in a higher gear!

Ivan Cortina; “Today was very long stage and we went easy to the last kilometers and the team did amazing job. They put me to the front and after the last corner I thought that the finish line was a bit closer. Anyway I am happy and I feel good and I have good legs. I had a good opportunity to take the victory, but all is OK”.

Matej Mohorič; “We tried and Ivan showed he is in a very good condition and has good legs. I think he could’ve win the stage today. We had to deliver him a bit better, but unfortunately I was left alone with him a little bit too soon and we had to go like this. Anyway it is not a bad result and we will try to improve that on some of the next stages”.
