MONDAY, 8 APR 2019

Zumarraga – Zumarraga-Gorraiz 149.5km. Two cat.3 climbs, dirty roads and uphill final.

“It was quite stressful. I made some mistakes and I crashed two times” Dylan Teuns explained after today’s stage, that featured some sectors of dirty roads in the second half of the race, two category 3 climbs and an uphill finish. In fact, Team Bahrain Merida leader crashed unfortunately, with 40km to go and then into the final 25km. Without bad injuries, just slight skin scratches, but he was forced to stop and then pushing to get back on the peloton. “It’s really bad, not for the crash, but for the result, because I had super good legs and in the end I had to spend a lot of energy to come back after the second crash. Without that, maybe I could take a good result. It’s good anyway, but I think this finish should put me in a top five place”.
The Belgian rider could manage to finish with the first group, taking 13th place “It’s bad that I made those mistakes, because I think the condition is good as we saw already yesterday. Today I had also really good legs. Let’s looking forward now to recover well from the crash and I hope to keep the good shape until the end”. After today’s stage Teuns moved to 8th place overall.
