Villars, 27th April 2018 – Ion Izagirre enters the Top Ten of the General Classification after today’s uphill time trial. The Basque rider is now 10th with a 1’55″ gap from the race leader Primoz Roglic. The stage was won by the young Colombian Egan Bernal, who now has a gap of only 6” from the the Slovenian rider.

“I’m happy with my race – says Ion – in this last period I ran Itzulia Basque Country and after the Ardennes’s classics I arrived here in Romandie quite well. Today I gave as much as I could “.

The brother Gorka, however, arrived with a delay of more than 3 minutes from the winner: “I have no regrets, I tried to give everything but the climb was too hard for me and in the end I lost a lot of time compared to riders who are very strong climbers”.

Good performance by Hermann Pernsteiner who finished in 20th position: “Today, I did my best thinking also about yesterday’s effort. Normally, I can do this really good. I saw I lost two minutes from the stage winner but I’m sure I can still improve”.

Sport director Harald Morsher comments the stage: “The Izagirre brothers did a good race but today they found opponents stronger than them. A positive note comes from Hermann’s performance, which has proven to feel very good when the road goes up”.

Tomorrow the “queen stage” of this edition. “A short stage of just under 150km – explains Ion Izagirre – but with five climbs of which three are 1st category with gradients that reach 15%. I expect a great battle and I think Team Sky will do everything possible to win the overall and we will have to be careful to exploit the situation “.
