Alfacar, 28th August 2018 – In the first Vuelta’s summit finish, Ion Izagirre arrives with the red jersey group and maintains his position at the top of the General Classification.

“It was a good stage – says the Spanish rider, now 6th in the GC – as I arrived with the men in the standings. I feel good and tomorrow I foresee a very demanding stage. We went quiet for almost the whole day and only in the last 25km there was a strong acceleration but that did not make a big selection “.

Hermann Pernsteiner made also a good job: “It was very hot, like everyday here but my feelings were good. I was really on the limit and so I went to the end of the day. I’m sure I can improve more “.

Sport Director Gorazd Štangelj: “I was note sure the breakaway could reach the finish line, but they had about 8 minutes before the last climb and so it was hard to pick them up. The men of the red jersey group have not given a great battle and among them also Ion Izagirre who defended himself very well “.

The fifth stage starts from Granada to finish in Roquetas de Mar after 188km. Wavy route for the whole race with the second category climb of Alto El Marchal ending at 24km from the finish line.
