Pozo Alcón, 31st August 2018 – A quiet stage but with a very hectic final saw our Ion Izagirre finish in seventh position in the best riders’s small group.

Ion Izagirre: “It was a very insidious finale and we went full gas also because we had the wind behind us. The last climb with 15km to go was very slippery and even the descent was dangerous so it was necessary to stay in the first positions”.

“There have been so many crashes and punctures – the Basque rider continues – I’m fine and I’m waiting for Sunday’s stage there will be the second summit finish on Covadilla top and then I’ll take stock of the situation”.

Mark Padun “We have reached a third of Vuelta and my condition is growing step by step. The teammates with more experience are giving me precious advices and I hope to do something more in the second race week “.

Sport Director Gorazd Štangelj: “it was quiet almost all day but the last 30km were crazy. To tell the truth we didn’t expect such a bad road. The team worked hard to defend the position and we thought Gorka could do the final but he had spent too much to be close and help his brother Ion “.

The eighth stage from Linares to Almadén is almost 200km long. The race heads north with a route never flat and with many ups and downs. The last kilometers are challenging because always uphill that becomes steeper when missing about 2km to the finish line.
