Kyoto, Monday 21st May – “Today we could have won, but unfortunately he [Takeaki Amezawa] came with a late attack and I caught him on the line. I can say that we rode super like a team. It’s nice to be a leader,” says our GC leader Grega Bole after Kyoto stage.

Thanks to our local hero Yukiya Arashiro, we got a huge advantage by his experience. He knew very well of the course. After the 4 breakaway riders got caught, the race went faster and faster. Grega was closed to the victory but could not catch the rider escaped in the last kilometer, he took second and won Team Bahrain-Merida the green jersey as the best GC rider.

From Harald Morscher, our sports director: “I think second place is a good beginning in this race. We want to be in the front in Tokyo, so we have to make tactics in the next days. For us it’s also not easy to ride here, because of 2 to 3 hours full riding. Normally we do much longer than here. We have to adapt about that. Our goal is always to win a stage, and we are confident to do a good result again.”
