After Stage 2 at Paris Nice Gorka kept the 2nd overall position
Vierzon, Monday 5th March – Today’s stage was 187,5 km long and flat with a temperature of 8°C and it took us from the tiny village of Orsonville – 400 inhabitants – to the town of Vierzon in Centre-Val de Loire.
After the start a block headwind meant that we were off to a rather sedate start and it took more than two hours for the first breakaway to happen. Our Manuele Boaro and a rider for Katusha Alpecin rode almost 60 km in front until 4km to go and their biggest gap was 3 minutes.
Today’s stage was quite unspectacular and fortunately safe from rain and wet roads. The only serious curve appeared 1km to go where a bunch finish started. Dylan Groenewegen from LottoNL-Jumbo won the stage. Iván García Cortina fought in a chaotic sprint and he finished 10th. Our GC rider Gorka Izagirre kept the 2nd overall position 7 sec behind the GC leader.
