Bagnères-De-Luchon, July 24th, ST16 – Gorka Izagirre grabs the 2nd place, the fifth for the Team in this Tour edition. A few seconds behind the stage winner, Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe, arrived also Domenico Pozzovivo and Ion Izagirre. Thanks to their good performance, TBM is now leading the special team classification.

“I spent a lot in over 100km of breakaway – explains Gorka Izagirre – and also all the riders were excellent athletes. On the last climb, we tried together with Domenico, but Alaphilippe proved  to be the strongest. Tomorrow will be a very special race and I would like to do a good race in front of the many Basque fans I will find on the road. “

SD Rik Verbrugghe comments:”Today we have gone really strong and the proof is that the break has struggled a lot before leaving because the peloton strictly controlled the race. The tactical situation was ideal for us with three climbers. Too bad for the umpteenth second place but it is right to observe how even today we were the best team. The first place in the team overall also means that we have worked well and we arrived in the third week with a good condition “.

Domenico Pozzovivo was 5th:”We wanted to try and overcome the Movistar who was the team leader. When the break started, we were ready and, in the final, we were three and they were only two. Last week I wasn’t at my best, now I’m really super and I’ll try again to do something more”.

Stage number 17 is among the most anticipated of this Tour. Very short, only 65km from Bagnères-De-Luchon to Saint-Lary-Soulan, but with between three consecutive climbs of which two of the first category and the last the Col de Portet classified HC. It will be great battle.
