Laruns, July 27th, ST19 – The last Pyrenean stage saw the brothers Ion and Gorka Izagirre and Domenico Pozzovivo finish in the first 15 classified. A good result that certifies the good condition of the Team also in the third and last week of this Tour.

“Even today the guys have shown great determination – commented SD Rik Verbrugghe – and having three riders in the final of such a hard stage is already a good goal achieved. It was certainly not easy to win but they gave everything. Chapeau!”.

Gorka Izagirre was among the last to be picked up by the Top GC riders: “I wanted to try in the last uphill stage and so I went in the breakaway – says the Spaniard rider – knowing however that the final victory contenders they wouldn’t leave a lot of space. Anycase, I’m satisfied with my performance on this Tour “.

Impressive race also for his brother Ion: “We did everything we could do. It was a very difficult stage that came on at Col d’Aubisque with a series of attacks. I tried to resist when I was in the yellow jersey group then I lost ground coming to the finish line with 3 minutes gap “.

In the team classification we recovered about 13 minutes and kept the second place just over 11 minutes from Movistar.

The penultimate stage of the Grande Boucle 2018 is a 31km time trial. The route to get to Espellette it’s very challenging with many ups and downs and a 900m steep climb (at 10.2%) just before the last three kilometers downhill that lead to the finish line.
