Giro d’Italia – Amore infinito

Osimo, May 16th– Stage 11; Assisi – Osimo –156 km

The 11th stage of 156 km from Assisi to Osimo was short, hard, punchy and with a complicated uphill finale in Osimo’s historical centre.

Simon Yates (Mitchelton – Scott) had a solo victory on cobbles in Osimo. The runner up was Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb) and Davide Formolo (Bora – Hansgrohe) finished third. Domenico TBM GC rider, Domenico Pozzovivo took 5th place with +8,00 seconds behind Simon Yates and +1,18 behind todays’ winner and Maglia rosa.

Domenico Pozzovivo, shortly expressed his thoughts after todays’ stage;

«It was a difficult day after yesterday’s hard stage. The speed was high even today.

In the final it was very difficult to stay in front, in the last two km when Yates attacked I continued with my pace, in the last part there were cobblestones and I had some troubles and I tried to lose less time as possible. But I’m satisfied with the overall because I gained seconds over some rivals behind me

Matej Mohorič, yesterdays’ winner of stage 10 noted:

«The tactic of today’s stage was to bring Domenico in the best possible position for the final two km. We managed it successfully and he was right on the front in the penultimate steep climb. He performed well in the final and we’re happy for this»
