Alicante (Spain), February 7th 2019 – Good performance again at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana for the Team BAHRAIN MERIDA. Stage 2 finished in Alicante with a sprint won by Matteo Trentin, ahead of Bouhanni and Swift, with Sonny Colbrelli taking 4th place.

Today’s stage featured an undulating 166km course starting and finishing in Alicante, where the fastest men contested the sprint, as on paper, after the breakaway of the day was caught on the final climb with 49km to go.

“First sprint of the season, not so bad”, Colbrelli commented “I was in a good position with Matej Mohorič and Jan Tratnik, we just got the final roundabout wrong. But all in all it’s a good result and there are further opportunities to come”.

Sports Director Vladimir Miholjević’s overview about stage 2: “After yesterday’s time trial, we tried to do a nice sprint with Sonny and all team was dedicated to him, but also to protect Dylan Teuns. We’re quite happy. Sonny showed a good condition. Just a mistake when entering the roundabout with 300 meters to go, he lost position and exit out with a smaller speed than others but he was able to defend his position at the front. We’re satisfied because we worked well today too”.

Any changes in the general classification, where Dylan Teuns is still 4th overall.
