Tour of Slovenia

June 19th – 23rd

Ljubljana-Rogaška Slatina, 171 km. Undulating. Sprint finish.

171 km long Stage 1 of Tour of Slovenia from Ljubljana to Rogaška Slatina with two mountain finishes was calm until the finish sprint which is typical for flat stages. Only few were in the lead of the peloton at anything but easy climb to Planina pri Sevnici, where a part of the road has an incline of 11%. On the descent from Planina a group of 10 riders was formed and escaped. Unfortunately, none of TBM riders was in it. The group in a breakaway was caught a few kilometers before the sprint, this time with Bole and Haussler fighting for a best place at the finish. After a long sprint finish of 500 metres, Grega Bole finished the 1st Stage at 7th place.
Sport Director Gorazd Štangelj is not entirely happy with today’s performance: “40 km before the finish Arashiro, Novak and Sieberg tried to pool back the breakaway. Later they were dropped. Bauhaus couldn’t follow high pace on a very hilly final kilometres. In the finish we came with two riders, Bole and Haussler, who were set to sprint and Bole finished 7th.”
