BinckBank Tour

August 12th – 18th

SUNDAY, 18 AUG 2019

Sint-Pieters-Leeuw > Geraardsbergen, 178.1km. Cobbles and uphill sprint finish.

The last stage of Binck Bank Tour is a deciding one. In total there are 18 climbs, most famous being Muur and Bosberg and they are both part of the local lpa that riders will pass 4 times. Those are small but hard climbs, with cobblestone and sharp corners. As expected as soon as riders entered the local lap the peloton stretched, but no rider made a bigger gap of 30 seconds. Peloton made sure they don’t run away with breakaway win. 18km to go Van Avermaet, De Plus, Naesen managed to make about 30 seconds on main group. Cortina was in that group but that group was unable to bring back the escapees. Cortina finished 8th in the stage and 7th overall.
Tristan Hoffman was satisfied with the race: “I’m super happy with 8th place in stage and 7th overall. It was full gas from the start. Teammates helped him and protected him for the long time. Some riders were very strong, but Ivan did a super great race and I’m really satisfied. This is a big step for him, to be top 10 in GC on the World Tour race.”
Ivan Garcia Cortina: “I’m really happy as the whole race I didn’t feel well, but in the final I did a really good sprint. I’m happy with the result”.
