BinckBank Tour

August 12th – 18th

Aalter>Aalter, 166.9km. Sprint finish.

A third chance for the sprinters and again organizers threw in a few cobblestone sections along with some narrow roads to make the race more interesting. After a big loop, riders entered the small loop of 30km that they passed 3 times, enough to familiarize themselves with the course and understand where to push to be in front for good positioning. Being familiar with the course doesn’t mean the race will be stress-free. Bole, Cortina and Sieberg were all involved in several crashed but managed to continue the race. From 30km to go Sieberg, Haussler and Bauhaus were close to the front. Similar to last two days peloton caught the 3 breakaway riders inside the 10km when the pace picked up significantly. The fight for position was hectic and all teams tried to put their sprinter in front at last corner 450m before the finish. And when you think we had enough crashes for the day, Phil Bauhaus crashed at that corner when he was fighting for the top position to exit that crucial corner.
Our Sports Director Tristan Hoffman said: “It was another tough day in Belgium, just like the other two days, many small roads, some cobblestones, stress, and at the end we played all our cards on Phil, but he went down in the last corner 400m to go and the game was over. He has a cut under his eye, but he’s OK. Sometimes you win it, sometimes you lose it”.
