Another good 4th place for Phil Bauhaus
Guilin, October 21st – Stage 5 is the longest stage of 212.2 km with 4 categorized climbs. Peloton once split on the consecutive climbs, then crashes happened on the fast and furious downhill, but in the end all the fast men could make it back for the big bunch sprint. Phil Bauhaus took another good 4th place. Fernando Gaviria(UAD) was the winner of the stage, while Enric Mas(DQT) retained his red jersey as the leader of GC ahead of Daniel Felipe Martínez(EF1) by 5 seconds. All riders from Team Bahrain-Merida finished safe and sound on the penultimate day.
A short comment from Phil Bauhaus after today’s effort: “Today was a long day. 3 climbs in the end and some teams decided to go full gas. Luckily I could stay with the sprinters. It was also very good fighting spirit from Sieberg to come back in the last 10km. He could position me good on the last corner with 1.5km to go then until the last km. Everyone tried his best. I was on Trentin’s wheel, and that was good. I was also not fast enough to pass him in the sprint. We have one more chance tomorrow. I am very sure that if we do everything good, I can do even better than today.”
