Another French win at Stage 6 at Paris Nice

Vence, Friday 9th March – Long climbing stage from Sisteron to Vence took the riders 198 km through the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Alpes-Maritimes. Surrounded by an extremely picturesque view all along with some snow still at some road sides.

After 4 climbs Cat2 the most challenging climb Cat 1 awaited the riders exactly 8,5 km before the finish line. 25 km to go a breakaway ended and the race had started all over again. In that moment the weather became cloudy after the nice sunny long 170 km through valleys and mountains. Everybody’s expectation to have a new GC rider in the lead after that last climb Cat 1 vanished. The GC leaders took firm control of that last part of the race and didn’t give a chance to anyone to slip in. The Izagirre brothers were strong on the last steep climb Côte de la Colle sur Loup and finished together alongside other GC riders. It’s been another home court win for a French rider, this time Rudy Molard, who is the 4th French rider to win a stage in this Paris Nice 2018 making the local fans happy and proud.

Team Bahrain Merida did a great job today for their team leaders. Even though the GC time gap didn’t change for the Izagirre brothers, yet they both managed to climb 1 placement up due to the fall out of another GC rider who couldn’t finish the race.
