2nd place for Bole on 2nd stage of Tour of Slovenia

Celje (Slovenia) , June 20th – Challenging Stage 2 started in the second largest Slovenian city, Maribor. In this 146,3 km long route from Maribor to Celje the race was less nervous than yesterday’s. TBM worked accordingly to the strategy set this morning. Decesive part today was the ascent to 2nd category 5,5 km long climb to Celjska koča where later, at the technical very demanding descent to Celje, Grega Bole performed very well. Some 500 meters before the stage’s finish in the Celje’s city center, the main group managed to catch the five riders in the lead in the sprint finish where Bole finished at 2nd place.

Grega Bole commented today’s stage as hard: “The climb was difficult for me. It looks like I am still tired from Giro and all the races. At the first part of the first lap I have lost a lot of energy catching a group ahead, but I did my best at sprint finish when I caught the group in lead. Luka Mezgec (Mitchelton-Scott) was faster, but I am very happy with the second place”.

Sport Director Gorazd Štangelj is pleased with today’s result: “Everything was, more or less, as we planned. Small breakaway from the start, a race was lead by Bora and we just followed them. Today’s is a good example that we need to fight till the end. It we look back now, Grega risked to win a stage. First he came to third group, after he caught the second group and than he caught the first group at 500 meters to go and, in the end, he was sprinting for the stage victory and we are more than happy with the 2nd place. All stages are very hard and we don’t have rides to be competitive, so all the time we are trying to our best and leave good impressions for our fans here in Slovenia”.
