Sonny Colbrelli second at Grand Prix Cyclistes de Montréal

Montreal, September 9th– 205,7 km – 17 laps of 12,1 a race with hard climb that forced a difficult cadence, and it repeated 17 times. Each lap was 21,1 km long.
Michael Mathews (Team Sunweb) showed again his impressive sprint skills for another victory in Canada over Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Merida) in the last metres. Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing) finished third. Sonny Colbrelli looked to have safe victory with 150 metres to go, but Mathews took had a bit more strength to takeover the victory for half of the bike lenght.
Matej Mohotrič showed again in Canada that he is full of confidence after his European victories last month and he had shown it today and with Jan Polanc and Gregor Mühlberger with 29km to go the trio cauht up the day’s early break. Matej Mohorič and his two breakaway companions held a 15 second lead that was anullated just under 10km to go.
Matej Mohorič immediately started to defend his Bahrain Merida team and was focused on Sonny Colbrelli to launch him for his sprint fireworks. Enrico Gasparotto was continuously giving the tempo and pressure, looking for his chance but having eyes in the decisive moments for Colbrelli. Domenico Pozzovivo was the one to build up his chances at the climbs, but had also very important role that was shown from the TBM quartet and great protagonists of the team in the last few kilometers.

Canadian journey of TBM is closed now with a good result, a second place of Sonny Colbrelli and with a taste of a great teamwork and team spirit. Great individual and team performance was clearly presented. Tomorrow TBM has a flight back home to Europe.
