Llanars (Vall De Camprodon)-La Molina, 150.3km. Mountain.

Damiano Caruso finished in the top 20 on today’s mountain stage in the heart of the Pyreenes. The Italian rider was 18th atop La Molina, 1’51” behind the solo winner Lopez. Hermann Pernsteiner crossed the finish line few seconds after him, in 22nd place.
It was the second consecutive mountain stage, short and explosive, with three first category climbs, including the two climbs to La Molina and a hors category climb. On the descent from the Coll de Coubet a 25-man group, including Caruso and Antonio Nibali went clear. “We planned exactly to put Damiano and another rider in the breakaway” Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Vladimir Miholjevič explains “After a big fight we managed to do so: Caruso, Antonio Nibali and about other 20 riders created a group, that got with a maximum gap of 4’30”. Behind Team Sky and UAE controlled the race, that was decided on the final climb, with Lopez taking a solo win. Damiano arrived in the top 20 and Pernsteiner immediately behind him. This was the maximum that we can get from today race. But we’re quite satisfied with the team, because they follow the tactics and they did what we planned”.
