Vincenzo Nibali and Pernsteiner enter the Top Ten
Thanks to a brave race Vincenzo Nibali and Hermann Pernsteiner enter the Top Ten overall. The Queen stage that faced the 2000 meters of Passo Giovo saw a large selection with twenty riders play for the win.
The young Austrian Hermann Pernsteiner finished 5th and now occupies the same position in the GC with a 39” gap from the stage winner and new race leader the Russian Pavel Sivakov:”It was a hard stage with headwind all day. The pace climbing Passo Giovo was quite intense and I was near my limit. I managed the climb and after the race became a gamble and I felt not super. For the next days I will help Vincenzo try to support him the best that I can ”.
Vincenzo Nibali, today 7th, is now 6th in the overall with the same gap as his teammate: “It was a 5-hour stage and the sensations are good. We did a good job uphill, then after the long descent I tried to stretch on my rivals in the standings but both Astana and Sky checked me. On the final wall together with Majka we made a forcing and I recovered several positions in the GC”.
Satisfied SD Franco Pellizotti: “On the Passo Giovo we did the pace to make as much selection as possible and make opponents struggle. The boys have worked well and we can surely grow even before the Giro d’Italia. Vincenzo also demonstrated today that he has a very good condition”.
