The 4th edition of Dubai Tour will start on February 6th. 5 stages of Dubai (and bordering emirates) desert roads will see battle of sprinters, since 4 of those stages are mostly flat. Stage 4 is a queen stage of the race and it finishes on the steep ramp of Hatta Dam. This stage will give a chance to puncheurs to upset sprinter and make few seconds difference that could decide the overall winner.
Team Bahrain Merida is sending a strong team led by our sprinter Sonny Colbrelli. Vincenzo Nibali will also race, making up for missing Argentinian race due to illness. Borut Bozic, Grega Bole, Ivan Cortina, Kristijan Koren and David Per will round up our start list.
Alberto Volpi (sports director): “This is the first Middle Eastern race of our team for 2018. We have an excellent line-up with high quality athletes. Everyone in the team will have an important role for this race. We expect that the race will be decided with the bonus seconds and Hatta Dam climb in the stage 4. We will start with Sonny as leader, while the presence of Vincenzo is an additional value for our team.”
Apart for Nibali, Nicolas Roach (BMC) is the only other Grand Tour rider in this race, but there are plenty of sprinters contending in Dubai. Sonny will have a lot of rivals, last year winner Marcel Kittel is favorite again this time in the colors of Katusha Alpecin, while  Alexander Kristoff will be under preasure to deliver for the home team UEA Team Emirates. Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo), Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis), Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo), Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) and Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) round up the other main sprint contenders.
