Yas Island-Abu Dhabi Breakwater, 184km. Pan-flat. Sprint stage.

Team BAHRAIN MERIDA sprinter Phil Bauhaus finished just outside the top ten in the bunch sprint in Abu Dhabi, won by Gaviria and contested by lots of strong riders. Speaking after his 12th place, Phil said: “Despite crosswinds that split the peloton during the day, I tried to save energy, even if I was in the third group. I was quite sure that we all came back as it happened last year thanks to the big highway the headwind. In the end I was fresh for the final. The team was super strong. We did really a good job all day. I’m super happy with the team. Also in the last km we were in front, with Jan Tratnik and Marcel Sieberg, who was leading out into the last km. Unfortunately we lost the moment to start to really go for it and then we were blocked”. Team BAHRAIN MERIDA leader Vincenzo Nibali finished safely in the peloton and moves to 9th overall ahead of tomorrow’s stage with the steep final climb of Jebel Hafeet.
