Two Bahrain Merida riders in top 10 overall
Tour of Oman, February 19th, Stage 6
This is what we’ll remember from this year’s Tour of Oman – Tsgabu Grmay and Giovanni Visconti finished in top 10 overall. But to come back to today’s stage. It was flat and fast stage from start to finish, 130km from Wave Muscat to finish with three loops around Matrah Cornice. The whole race has been controlled by Katusha as they were trying to set up their top sprinter for yet another win, and they managed to do that. Alexander Kristoff won his 3rd stage out of six, and he edged Grosu and Modolo that came second and third respectfully. Our Sonny Colbrelli finished at 7th place. It was a bunch sprint, so most riders finished in the time of the winner. With this stage being the final stage now we know the final standing. Ben Hermans from BMC kept his red (winners) jersey with Rui Costa and Fabio Aru rounding the podium spots. Great result for our Grmay being 5th, as well as for Visconti being 9th.
“It was difficult stage, because of conditions (wind) and because boys started to be little tired. It didn’t work out as yesterday, but anyways, the boys put Sonny in the good position for the final. 400m to go another team jumped in front of him and he was blocked, he couldn’t come out as he wanted for the sprint. But overall, boys have done a very good job all week long. I’m very satisfied with the spirit, but also with the fitness. 2 guys in top 10 is a good result.” – Philippe Mauduit, Bahrain Merida Sports Director.
