Tour of California

May 12th – 18th

FRIDAY, 15 MAY 2019

Ontario>Mt. Baldy, 127.5km Queen Stage.

The brutal final climb (7.6km climb averaging a steep 8.8%) was decisive both for the stage win and the General Classification, that after the penultimate stage see Rohan Dennis moving in 10th place and Hermann Pernsteiner in 19th.
The Austrian climber went in a 10-man group breakaway right after the start and managed to stay away with few other riders, but on the descent after the first climb he dropped and was caught by the peloton.
It was a tough day in the saddle, with the riders facing some first-category climbs (Glendora Bridge Road 1 and Glendora Mountain Road 2) before the steep ascent to Mt. Baldy on the finale. Dennis and Pernsteiner were in the first group, that caught back the attacker Scahchmann, with about 4km to go. Then the decisive move of few riders, including Pogacar, who battled with Higuita for the stage win on the summit finish line, taking both the victory and the overall.
Our guys Dennis and Pernsteiner are both satisfied with their performance today. They finished respectively 8th (+47”) and 18th (+1’35”).
