Tomorrow: finisseur or climber?
Follonica, 8th March 2018 – A fairly quite stage today at the Tirreno-Adriatico. Only in the Follonica’s final circuit the race was suddenly animated with a sprint finish won by the German Marcel Kittel.
“It was the classic stage for sprinters – explains Kristijan Koren – and we were careful to reach the finish line without problems. After the Strade Bianche, I feel I’m growing and I’m ready for the first demanding stages “.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of the last lap there was a fall in the middle of the group that involved about thirty riders including our Domenico Pozzovivo, Sonny Colbrelli and Ramunas Navardauskas . “They fell in front of me near the sidewalk and I could not avoid them. No problem for me because, in practice, the fall was muffled by the other riders “. Any consequence also for Sonny and Ramunas.
The third stage in the longest of this edition (239km) with four average-category climbs. The final is very highly demanding with the Trevi climb covered twice: narrow road and gradients exceeding 13-15%.
For Sport director Rik Verbrugghe “the final suits the finisseur like our Sonny Colbrelli but also those riders who are able to push hard uphill. The boys are fine and I expect an important performance tomorrow. “
