Tour of Slovenia

June 19th – 23rd

SATURDAY, 22 JUN 2019

Nova Gorica-Ajdovščina, 153.9 km. Queen stage.

On a difficult 153,9 km long stage 04 from Nova Gorica to Ajdovščina, rides had to deal, along with three 3rd category climbs, also with the ascent to Predmeja, which is the highest point of this year’s Tour of Slovenia. The first part of the stage allowed escape for a minor group which was caught by the main group near the last ascent. Ranked as 1st category climb, 9 km long climb to Predmeja, with 8% incline, was a thought nut to crack for many cyclists. A battle for the stage victory begun on a descent to finish in Ajdovščina.
Bole’s commented on today’s race: “Today’s weather didn’t play in the favor of our strategy which was to fight for breakaway. Rain in the beginning and unfortunate Domen’s fall were the reason we couldn’t go to the breakaway together. I tried to do my best once again. On the last and most difficult ascent Domen rode with me and helped me a lot”.
