The approach to the Tour continues
Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc, June 10th – The last stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné was another intense day in the Alps with seven categorised climbs: 136km from Moûtiers to Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc, with other 4000m of climbing.
For Team BAHRAIN MERIDA riders today’s stag has been one more chance to test and to improve the shape ahead of the Tour de France. “I’m satisfied with my race. After the work we did at the high-altitude training camp on Mount Teide, I needed to find again the racing rhythm” explained TBM leader Vincenzo Nibali, who crossed the finish line about 6 minutes down the winner Adam Yates, who got the better of the escapee Dani Navarro, with only 50m to go. “It was a really hard edition of the Dauphiné and that was good for me. On Tuesday we will go to Passo San Pellegrino for another training camp. The approach to the Tour de France continues” concluded the Shark that raced on the French roads with a new custom Merida Bikes Reacto, exactly the same that he will use at the Tour.
Head of Performance Paolo Slongo analysed team’s performance at the Dauphiné: “We were here to better understand how was our riders’ shape so far, seen that they came from a period without racing. According to the work done we already knew that we would not have been with the best maybe. Vincenzo’s feelings are that he felt better day by day. There is still one moth to the Tour de France and as I told, I’m not worried, because I believe we’re doing the best approach to the Tour”
Overall winner of Critérium du Dauphiné 2018 is Geraint Thomas, who secures it despite punctures and some attacks on the final stage. Bahrain Merida best place rider is Vincenzo Nibali 24th.
