Team Bahrain Merida to Tre Valli Varesine
Monday, October 7th – The Italian autumn classic races week will continue with ‘Tre Valli Varesine’, that will take place tomorrow, starting from Saronno and finishing in Varese after 197km. The race is the final act of the ‘Trittico Lombardo’ series.
“We will head to ‘Tre Valli Varesine’ with a strong team, including riders with different skills, to be ready for a race that as usual will offer so many solutions” – Team Bahrain Merida Sports Director Alberto Volpi explains.
On this year’s 99th edition, the traditional rolling course will be even more selective than usual. In fact, after the long flat part along the lakes of Varese and Comabbio, the peloton will start the most demanding part of the route, facing five short laps followed by two long laps, all featuring the ‘Bobbiate’ ascent.
“I think this new change made to the course will reduce the opportunities for sprinters” Volpi adds “Having that climb to face also in the finale will mean that you need strong legs to survive and sprint to win in Varese. Anyway, if that will be the case, we will be ready to contest it with a champion like Sonny Colbrelli, who will be highly motivated after his success at GB Beghelli. But I believe that the race will suit best riders as Dylan Teuns and Vincenzo Nibali. Both will be our leaders tomorrow”.
Last-minute changeover of the Tre Valli Varesine’s line-up: Andrea Garosio will be replaced by Ivan Cortina.
