Team BAHRAIN-MERIDA to make Eschborn-Frankfurt debut
BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team will take part for the first time at the Eschborn-Frankurt on May 1st. “Der Radklassiker” is the most traditional one-day cycling race in Germany and since 2017 part of the UCI World Tour.
It stands out as a completion of the great spring classics and was made famous by world-class cyclists such as Merckx, who won it in 1971.
“We want to honour the German Classic” says Team BAHRAIN MERIDA Sports Director Harald Morscher “Our target is to fight for the podium with Grega Bole and Luka Pibernik. They did a great work for their teammates in the past weeks and they are in good shape, then it is fair that they will have a chance to try to take a good result in Frankfurt. For sure our team can rely on Enrico Gasparotto and his great experience. He will be our Rouleur. He will control the race on a route that suits him and he is feeling well”.
The 57th edition of the Eschborn-Frankfurt features some changes in the 215km course as the return of the Billtalhöhe, one of the most legendary Taunus climbs in the history of the race. “We can expect many attacks and a selected group in the final” explains Morscher “Riders have to face several large loops in the Taunus region, including 4 climbs of the historic Mammolshainer Berg (2km, max. 23%), 3 climbs of the Ruppersthain (1,3 km, avg. 6,7%) and 2 climbs of the Billtalhöhe (3,5km, max. 8,4%). Besides there will be a more demanding finale in Frankfurt, with 2 final loops (3km) on the city centre, including 2.500m of climbing”.
